$1,381,097 will be spent on 40 schools in the region as part of the regular school maintenance program, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.

Mr Anderson said the Government will invest an additional $100 million on school maintenance this year, bringing the total investment to an unprecedented $847 million over four years.

“This investment will ensure that every student, in every school, has an equal opportunity to achieve excellence.

“When we came to Government we inherited a large school maintenance liability.

“The additional funding announced today is great news and a huge boost for the region.

“It will ensure that students and teachers can work in the best possible conditions.

“Twelve months ago we invested more than $1.4 million in a maintenance blitz for schools in the region and today’s announcement is great news for the end of year celebrations.

“The planned maintenance list includes non-urgent planned work such as painting, roofs, floors, carpet replacement, paving upgrades and other maintenance jobs at schools.

“In addition to prioritising maintenance in NSW schools, we have announced the first 30 schools in our region that will receive air conditioning under the record $500 million Cooler Classrooms program.

“This is on top of the major upgrades for Peel High, Tamworth Public and Farrer MAHS which is part of a record $6 billion over the next four years delivering more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support our communities.

An additional 900 full-time teachers will also be hired this financial year, building on the 5340 teachers that have been added to the public school system since 2011.

“This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any State government in Australian history,” Mr Anderson concluded.
