Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said sporting clubs and Councils in the region can now apply for funding of up to $25,000 under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program.

Mr Anderson said the funding is available for upgrading or creating new sports facilities, new sport programs, community events and projects that improve sports participation.

“Sport is a vital part in all our communities and I encourage all clubs and councils to apply.

“As I travel across the region I hear how sport has a strong foundation in these communities and this program aims to increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport and active recreation.

“I’ve heard that the winter indoor hockey competition in Walcha has about 300 players and there are many, many more examples of this kind of bond.

“This year the program will have two focus areas targeting opportunities specifically for women and girls and overall participation opportunities.

“There are four project types within the program, including sport development, community sport events, sport access and facility development.

“The maximum amounts available are: $2,000 for sport development, $5,000 for community sport events, $5,000 for sport access and up to $20,000 for facility development.

“The minimum amount available is $250 for all project types with the exception being for facility development which has a minimum request of $1,000.

“The maximum available to any one organisation is $25,000 in a financial year. The amount organisations request should reflect the scale of the project/s.

“It also comes on top of $200 million that has been committed to improving sporting facilities in regional NSW,” Mr Anderson concluded Organisations must contribute to the project, the higher the contribution the more favourably it will be looked upon.

This can be a financial contribution or through use of voluntary labour, donated materials and/or equipment or other resources directly related to the project. Third party organisations are also encouraged to contribute, including Local Government Authorities and these contributions will be counted as part of the club contribution.

Applications close on 24 August 2018. For more information visit https://sport.nsw.gov.au/clubs/grants/localsport or phone 13 13 02.
