RECONCILIATION WEEK 2020 – WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated across Australia each year from 27 May to 3 June.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said this Reconciliation Week he wanted to share what it meant to him.
“Reconciliation is a way to embrace our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous cultures, a means to overcome racism and a path to ensure equity and equality.
“It is our acknowledgement of the past and our journey to come together as one.
“This is a significant step forward to recognising and respecting one and all.
“It is important that we all contribute towards building relationships that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about and celebrate our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how we can achieve reconciliation in our communities.
“This year’s theme aims to encourage everyone to get involved in reconciliation.
“Now, more than ever, we are all #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020, Mr Anderson concluded.
This year marks twenty years since 250,000 people participated in The People’s Walk for Reconciliation across Sydney Harbour Bridge.
